Smart devices are a big part of our lives. Bluetooth Smart (BLE), which was introduced on IoT devices in 2011, made their number explode. So now we have cheaper devices that consume less power – what more can you ask for? Well... SECURITY and PRIVACY!

Tests done on many devices conclude that IoT and smart devices vendors still lack security awareness and fail to protect users' privacy. All tested devices were vulnerable to various degrees: A smart scale, a smart lock, a smart band, a smart light bulb and even the ultimate smart device - Amazon’s Alexa. Demos included!

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Have a clear view about privacy and the lack of it in today's IoT-driven world.
  2. Be familiar with different kind of attacks that can take place when targeting IoT devices.
  3. Have the basic knowledge to test, audit, and evaluate the security of IoT smart devices.
  4. See how creativity can overcome common mitigations when we handle the uncommon world of IoT.
  5. Witness demos of hacking a plethora of brand name devices including by Amazon, Lenovo and others that cannot be named as they are not fully disclosed yet.
